For most people, running is a huge task, let alone taking part in a marathon. But 70-year-old Chau Smith, is a class apart. Chau Smith didn't want to sit at home and laze around, she wanted to take up a new challenge. And so she joined a group of runners attempting to run 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 different continents.
And she nailed it!?
Smith competed alongside nine other participants in the Triple Seven Quest Marathon Adventures. Between January 25 and 31, she ran marathons in Perth, Australia; Singapore; Cairo; Amsterdam; Garden City, New York; Punta Arenas, Chile; and King George Island, Antarctica.?
Running a marathon takes a lot of training and for someone at her age, things can get very tricky. She also took part in the Boston Marathon race in 2013, but could not finish the race because of the bombing.?
But nothing deterred her spirit. "It took me eight months to really train,¡± Smith, who works 10 hours a day at a dry-cleaning business, told CNN.?
¡°The last four months, I really put in long, long runs. Every week, I ran from 15 miles to 130 miles,¡± she added
For those who are sitting and sulking about going for that early morning run, take Chau Smith as an inspiration. The joy of running, Smith says is indescribable.?
