'He whistles while you sleep.' A man and woman living a peaceful life in a homely flat make for ripe, unsuspecting victims for Whistler, the faceless entity that lurks just around the corner, just off the screen.
The title immediately draws you in. There's a sister, Hell, even biblical imagery. There's slip-shod plastic surgery thrown in, too. Won't be long before you find yourself so involved, you'll stick around till the end.
Going by its name, this short gives us a cop-cam view of strange activity taking place in an abandoned house. Plenty of drama, plenty of dark and one sudden end.
The Maiden is the name given by the original owner to the house where a Victorian-era demon-worshipper has claimed many a victim. This short follows an estate agent as she readies the house for the new owners. It soon turns out to be a sale she'll never forget.
For this little baby, VICE and the guys behind The Conjuring got together and commissioned four directors to create four horror shorts. The idea was to use the final product to promote The Conjuring at the time of its release. If you ask me, the compilation is still pretty relevant, and worth seeing.

The next day, after talking to the lady she's in charge of, she discovers an open window, and the reason why she's seeing someone in her nightmares. Could perhaps her guilt be why she's going through this in the first place?
Ah, sweet alone time. We're all too aware of the countless, exhausting work weeks where each day merges into the next. Breaking out of that rut is this film's protagonist who drives away from the city for a weekend in the woods. All seems cool until she heads back to the city and gets her pictures developed. Was it alone time, really? Kinda, reminiscent of a Reddit story.
A simple Polaroid camera and careless shooting leads one man to discover that he's sharing his apartment with an intruder. Every single shot brings him one step closer to this unnamed entity. The ending is not hard to guess from there.
A young girl, on the search for a new place to rent, finds one that seems like it belongs to a whole other era. Thinking nothing of the old decor, the girl moves in and starts living it out. Little by little she realises all is not what it seems - the apartment seems to have a life of its own. What's worse is, by the end of it, she's no longer the girl who had moved in but someone else who's eagerly waiting for an exit.
Short and crisp, this one dives right in. The video follows a woman who wakes up in the middle of the night for a glass of water. She notices her sister sleepwalking and parked in the living room. She takes her by the waist and leads her back to the bed. It's when she turns away from the bedroom that she sees the real horror.
No relation to the film at number 10, but a film about sleepwalking just the same. The story follows a girl who decides to pay her sister a visit following her breakup with a partner of eight years. What happens over the next four nights seems a little more than a simple case of sleepwalking. You may want to switch to English subtitles for this one.
From haunted houses, to haunted paintings, we're only picking pace here. A woman buys a painting but doesn't realise it comes to life when she sleeps. While in bed, she thinks she spots a shadow in the hallway. She follows the shadow to what turns out to be an empty living room. Let's just say her instinct was right - she's not alone.
That's the thing about rituals and offerings - they have to be done just right. Here, we see two men on the way to make an offering to an unnamed creature. They soon realise they don't have the meat that would've been the offering. But the creature they're trying to appease won't go back without getting what he came for. Cue, chaos.
When she takes an innocent night swim in her swimming pool, the woman doesn't realise this probably would be her last. Who is the figure waiting at the end of the pool. She can't make out a face. Losing her breath, she quickly surfaces and exits the pool. Once out, she looks for the dark figure once again. What she finds isn't for the faint of heart.
Whether the title is a pun on the gruesome ending or the fact that the child protagonist can't speak, is best left to the viewer. From the gap between the door and the floor, a little boy spots a shadow moving outside. Given how inquisitive children can get, he starts writing his questions on paper and slipping them under the door. The last answer makes his heart stop. You'll see why.
