We all know that life was a bazillion times better when we were children! And no matter what age we are now, those memories seem a lifetime away. Blame technology or whatever you may, but the good old days were precious and there¡¯s nothing we can do but sigh wistfully and reminisce fondly. Speaking of, if only there were some rituals we could bring back, we¡¯d do it in a heartbeat. Here¡¯s a heartwarming prance down memory lane, join us won¡¯t you?

We adults are so jaded (and boring) about birthday celebrations. Bring us back the exaggerated hats, extensive guest lists, big presents, loud games, dance competitions, and that staple diet of cake, wafers, chhole, and samosa STAT! Ain¡¯t no nostalgia like birthday nostalgia.

You know that time, don¡¯t you? When all the kids in the building leave whatever (and we mean whatever) they are doing and rush down to play with each other. At the risk of sounding ancient, we are going to clarify that there were no gadgets involved!
Every desi kid worth their salt could play and excel in Antakshri anywhere, anytime. Just something about singing out loud without a care in the world makes us wish this was still a thing!
Absolutely not referring to vaping but mock lighting Phantom cigarettes and thinking we were oh-so-cool!

Of course libraries are still around but how often do you even go to one? It was a childhood ritual that helped our imaginations grow and for that we¡¯ll forever be grateful!
Umm, hello cousin gang! When a group of kids ¨C friends or cousins ¨C get together to bring the house down by creating ruckus all night long, it was called a pyjama party! Most often occurring in the summer holidays, these happening events were also referred to as stay-overs/sleepovers.

No matter which community you belong to, there was a common thread weaved through all our homes ¨C that of pampering the children in the house. Especially on auspicious days like Diwali/Eid or the likes, all desi kids were given envelopes stuffed with cash by the elders. Now this one doesn¡¯t even need an explanation ¨C we want this ritual back pronto!

Imagine if all day on your birthday, your BFF gets to be with you and y¡¯all get to go meet everyone together. Sign us up for this ritual riggghhhhtt away!
Or any other good luck rituals that were part of your life and were typically the doing of your parents/grandparents. It¡¯s such a pure feeling to know they are praying for you and cheering your every move. This is something we really, really need to bring back in our lives now!

No matter what type of summer camp you went for ¨C whether it involved hiking or theatre, you remember it just as fondly today, don¡¯t you? There was a different set of summer camp friends and hopefully you stayed in touch with them over the years! Irrespective, why do we stop doing these things as adults?

If your building was the happening sorts ¨C then you had the good fortune of being a part of some event or the other the whole year through! For some buildings/colonies, the dance competition was the event of the year and kids would team up and practice for hours on end! Instead of eating diet food and trying to lose the weight we¡¯ve put on now, imagine if we did things like that.

Dear mom and dad, life is an exam! May I please get a prize for paying my bills?!
No? Not fair!!!

Making a plan with friends/cousins or even the whole family and suddenly taking off for a picnic. Wasn¡¯t this a ¡®thing¡¯ before? The spontaneity of it all was so thrilling. Why have we stopped going for picnics? Feel like packing some chutney sandwiches and heading off right away.
For now though, this little walk down memory lane is the only journey we¡¯ll be taking. Hope you enjoyed it like we did! :)?
