There's no better feeling in the world than falling in love with your best friend and finding that, for once, everything in the universe feels just right. A lot has been said about relationships, the do's and don'ts, but we're not the kind of creatures who face the brutal truth head on. Come to think of it, there are quite a few things we need to get right in order to relationship right. There are the obvious ones, then there are those we choose not to really think about. And it's time we caught up with those because no relationship that's not worth its weight in gold is one wasting time in. Don't let your relationship become just another tragic love story. Here are some things you need to face up to.
And that won't become a problem until you make it one. If it strengthens the relationship, there's no harm. Switching from your role of the constant taker can make things even better.
Could it be that they needed a rebound and you're it. Could it be that they needed a stop-over relationship and are constantly on the look-out for the 'real' thing. Ask your partner how invested they are in this while also letting them know that just because you're asking this doesn't mean you're looking for marriage, just the truth is fine.
This, in turn, will start eating away at your relationship. Try and be more open with your partner and let them know if you want to do something a certain way. If they truly value your companionship, chances are, this process will be as smooth as a baby's bottom.
And there's no reason why you should feel guilty about it. It was one thing to be on the phone constantly when we were younger. But now that we have demanding jobs and very real life situations playing out in front of us, not to forget priorities, it's fine if you don't eat each other's ears as much. If you're busy, then you're busy. No one said a relationship has to be easy, but it isn't supposed to be this difficult either.
It's good to love and perhaps even mirror your partner's behaviour, but don't forget 'you' in the process. If there's something you simply cannot negotiate over, then don't do it. If you think a lot about your partner's feelings, good. But there's also the you that needs to care for you.
If you start an argument, then make sure you end it. Make sure you and your SO find closure in the discussion. There's no point brushing things under the carpet and going about life acting normal while constantly fighting with the little things in your head. This was supposed to be about the stars, the moon, the real good stuff. So make your relationship the real, good stuff.
Yeah, we can all be a little pig-headed and it's really sad when it upsets someone we love. So take your head out of the clouds and start appreciating the little things your partner does for you. Because if you're not doing this, you might as well be dating a tree.
Just because he or she said something the other night over pizza and Netflix, doesn't mean you analyse their statement this way and that for the entire next week. It was just meant to be between the two of you, not to be taken seriously and something said only in passing. Better yet, if it's bothering you so much, just let them know about the fart-bomb in your head and ask them if this is something you should worry about. Chances are you won't have to.
Remember, someone's heart is in your hands. Someone loves you enough to be themselves in front you: this leaves them open to any attack from you. This is someone you love, so this is someone you handle with care, and if there's something that needs to be said, say it with carefully measured words because the intent is not to hurt them.
