Looking to improve your productivity and overall job performance? Researchers suggest taking a break might be the key to it. Yes, that's right, a break is the hack to boosting productivity, and science backs it! According to NIH researchers, a short break not only helps increase performance but also helps in learning a new skill.
While yes, it may sound counter-productive, but stay with us as we try to explain how it actually works. A 2014 study involving a survey of employees revealed almost 85% of them believed taking regular breaks throughout the day helps boost productivity.
On the other hand, if employees are not able to take breaks or their annual time-offs or allocated leaves the stress of the everyday job becomes too much to handle which ultimately leads to feelings of burnout. According to research, this not only impacts performance and hinders growth but leads to employees actually quitting and leaving the organisation altogether.
Taking regular short breaks as well as your PTOs is the best way to maintain a healthy work-life balance that will not only keep you happy in your personal life but will also result in you thriving in your profession.
