Embarrassment is a part of life that we unwillingly have to accept and some of these embarrassing moments have the potential to scar us. But what happens when humour meets shame? It is a delightful mix that can be shared amongst friends.?
Public transport is the ventilator of India. If stopped the country will come to a standstill. Many commuters spend hours on these modes of travel. Metros, autos, rickshaws and buses are all the common man¡¯s friends. So, it is only natural that in a sea of humanity that moves around in these,?there are people whose kismet turned sour and everything wrong that had to happen happened.
Collecting these embarrassingly funny stories of people when they were commuting with the public had me in splits and at times left me cringing too. I hope you find them equally amusing!?
"I was travelling in the metro, and had just caught one from Huda city centre. Now, I love the comfort of it but of course there are days when I am standing for most of the journey home. So, one evening on my return, the metro was going smooth until it came to a sudden halt. Like any millennial, my attention was on my phone and I wasn¡¯t holding on to a pole. Because of it I fell into the lap of an aunty and my bag that was stuffed with a heavy laptop and tiffin hit her on the nose. Her nose bled and I got off at the next stop too embarrassed to live.?

"I had boarded a bus from Bangalore to Pondicherry and it was a sleeper. They had beds and no seats. Since, I was feeling like pampering myself I took the double bed with curtains to shut the world out. A little later than midnight, I suddenly felt the need to use the washroom. We were in the middle of nowhere and the driver wasn¡¯t cooperating. I had to pee in a bottle eventually and throw it out of the window. Yeah, I am not proud of my existence sometimes."?

"I was in a DTC bus and it was a hot, scorching summer day. My friends and I had bought some refreshments before boarding the bus. So, it is only fair that I would want to have a sip of my friend¡¯s cold drink. When I took the bottle from her to drink without touching my mouth to it, the bus decided to brake. The force of it was such that the bottle went flying out of my hand and I fell down. While falling my hand caught hold of a duppatta instead of the seat¡¯s frame. The woman wearing it was left choking!"

"If you¡¯ve travelled in public transport especially in women¡¯s compartment, then you¡¯d realise that there are snoopy women who look into your phone. This one time a friend was planning a house party and the middle aged woman sitting next to me kept peeping. We started talking about how much it would have been if there were strippers for hire. I replied, ¡®Shhh, aunty police bulalegi!¡¯ Then I turned to look at the lady. And as I smiled, she got up and left."

"My then-girlfriend (now wife) and I had an argument of sorts before leaving for Dilli Haat. During those times, we didn¡¯t have the likes of cabs and had to travel in buses. So, we boarded the bus and our silent treatment continued. In the hustle bustle of it I thought I sat down next to my girlfriend. Didn¡¯t even look at her for a while till I decided to kiss her on the cheek and make up for it. I did, but to my horror it was another lady wearing the same coloured jacket. There was a loud laughter from the back. My girlfriend saw all of it and luckily came to my rescue."?

"A couple of years ago I was in the metro and there was a woman standing next to me. All was going well like any other day until it came to a sudden halt. I fell on her but that was not it. The guy next to me fell on us. All three of us were on the floor and she was crushed under our weight. I got off at the next stop."?

"I used to travel to Noida every day from Gurgaon and that meant taking the metro. Changing at Rajiv Chowk was a nightmare that I am especially glad I do not have to relive. I have seen a woman or two bring knitting needles to poke people with while boarding the metro. It changed my view of Delhi."

"Back in the day, as school kids, we used to take buses that were not affiliated with the school. A lot of first-grade students used to travel with us and they can be a handful while being extremely cute too. So, this one afternoon one of the kids decided to poop his pants. Now, how does he sit? Poor boy stood the entire route home with flies buzzing around him, while the majority of us were cooped up in the back of the bus in a bid to not throw up."

"My family and I, along with relatives, boarded a bus to head to a family function in another city. So, I went and sat next to the window seat. I was only 15 and unaware of my surroundings. I didn¡¯t even look to my side and assumed my mother sitting. After a few minutes I started to doze off and in my extremely tired state gave my mother a customary hug and slept in her lap. Only to realise three hours later that it wasn¡¯t my mother but an elderly stranger the same age as my grandmother. She didn¡¯t move an inch only so that my sleep wasn¡¯t disturbed. I was so touched."

"You know how sleepy the entire bus journey can be. So, this incident is the reason why I have a nickname that the school trip is to blame for. I had passed out during said trip and while I was blissfully asleep, I started to drool heavily. Waterfall down the chin kinda drool. My friends call me thoo-thoo."

"This was at an office offsite trip when we were in a bus travelling to our destination. Boredom crept in and I started listening to songs. I don¡¯t know what happened but soon, I started to hum. The humming turned into full blown singing. Then the bus went over a speed-breaker and I was brought back to reality. The entire bus was staring at me. Faces that were woken up from slumber at 1 am."?
