There's one more legend that takes us back to Mahabharata.?
The legend says that when a newly married Draupadi came home for the first time, Kunti- her mother in law- thought of testing her. Kunti gave Draupadi a small amount of potatoes masala and just enough dough to make one puri.
Then, she instructed Draupadi to cook something using these limited resources that would satiate the hunger of all her five sons. The clever Draupadi then made really small puris and filled them with potato masala & spicy water. Kunti was not only impressed with the dish but also blessed it with immortality!??
