Thalapathy Vijay, Tamil film industry's superstar and popular for his loyal fan base, has a love story that¡¯s just as intriguing as his film career. The South Indian superstar¡¯s relationship with his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, is one for the books, where fandom turning into love.
Sangeetha was a devoted fan of Vijay and travelled all the way from the UK to Chennai in the late 1990s. At the time, Vijay¡¯s career was soaring with the success of the film Poove Unakkaga. Eager to meet her idol and congratulate him on his success, Sangeetha managed to catch Vijay¡¯s attention. The actor was filming at Film City in Chennai when Sangeetha had visited him all the way from London to meet the star.
Impressed by her sincerity and admiration, Vijay invited Sangeetha to his home and introduced her to his family. It is said that the couple had an instant spark and rest is history. Vijay¡¯s parents, Chandrasekhar and Shobha, then went to London to meet Sangeetha¡¯s family.
On August 25, 1999, Vijay and Sangeetha tied the knot in a Hindu ceremony, followed by a reception in Chennai. Despite their different religious backgrounds¡ªVijay being Christian and Sangeetha a Hindu¡ªthey celebrated their union with a beautiful Hindu wedding.
Over the years, the couple has welcomed two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha. Both children have appeared on screen with Vijay, with Jason featuring in Vettaikaaran and Divya in Theri.
Recently, there were rumors about the couple possibly getting a divorce after 28 years of marriage, fuelled by Sangeetha¡¯s absence from public events like the Varisu movie audio launch and Priya Atlee¡¯s baby shower. However, these rumors have since been debunked, reaffirming that their relationship remains strong.
