Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated nationwide with many of our favourite celebrities sharing photos and videos of their grand festivities. Standing apart from the herd, Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao perfectly showcased how he uses his influence and platform to spread the correct message to the masses.
The Stree 2 actor and his wife Patralekha took to their Instagram to share an adorable picture of their Lord Ganesha idol with a sustainable touch. Rajkummar captioned the post, "Meet our super eco-friendly Ganpati ji. Made by us at home. Ganpati Bappa Morya" and impressed the internet with his environmentally conscious decision.
While idols are the first and foremost way to reduce waste production during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and choosing an eco-friendly one solves the major problem of water pollution, just getting an environmentally safe?idol is not enough! Here are 3 ways you can opt for eco-friendly decor as well to minimise your waste production.
Rather than buying and then disposing off decorations like garlands every year, invest in some good quality pieces that will last you a long time. Also, keep in mind that plastic decorations are next to impossible to recycle. So use natural fibre material. You can reuse old sarees and dupattas for decoration of the pedestal.
If you are planning to welcome Ganpati to your home, give a harmonious look to your decorations by following one single colour palette in theme. This will give a more aesthetically pleasing look to your space. Even if you want to make a rangoli, use flowers or natural colours like turmeric powder rather than artificial colours which are not only bad for the environment but also loos cheap.
Rather than using plastic and cheap-looking decorations, use real leaves and flowers for decor.? Once decorated, spray them with water every day and they are sure to last you for the whole 10-day-long festivities. Using real flowers will also keep your home smelling fresh all the time.
