United States President Donald Trump has spent much of June 24 pushing a ceasefire to end the ongoing war between Iran and Israel. Having spoken to the media about potentially coming up with a deal, he claimed on Truth Social post that both countries had come to him and suggested peace.Since then, the state of the ceasefire has been contentious, with Iran¡¯s foreign minister disputing a definitive ceasefire agreement but also claiming that Iran would cease all hostilities if Israel ceased its operations before 4 am Tehran time.More recently, Trump has ramped up the pressure on Israel to cease its bombing campaign, and has openly stated on Truth Social that Israel¡¯s plans will come back home after doing a friendly ¡°Plane Wave¡± without hurting anyone.?
Trump¡¯s claim about Israel taking its planes home comes immediately after a more strongly-worded Truth Social post where he harshly admonished Israel against continuing its bombing, saying:¡°ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES¡±Aside from Trump¡¯s posts pressuring Israel, he also took another dig at Iran by posting ¡°IRAN WILL NEVER REBUILD THEIR NUCLEAR FACILITIES!¡± immediately after his warning to Israel.?
Israel began an aggressive military campaign against Iran on June 13, 2025. The Netanyahu administration, already embroiled in a protracted conflict in the Gaza strip since October 7 2023, launched strikes on key Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Israeli forces had also targeted multiple military leaders, politicians, and nuclear scientists in its onslaught, sparking worldwide fears of potential escalations such as Iran blockading the Strait of Hormuz.?
The United States also escalated tensions with Iran after launching B2 bombers and Tomahawk missiles at Iranian nuclear sites on 22 June. These strikes were soon followed by President Trump calling for a regime change in the country.Trump¡¯s recent attempts at being peacemaker are being watched closely by the media and political commentators throughout the United States and the Middle East. While Trump has often leaned into anti-war rhetoric during both his presidential campaign and actual presidency, his detractors have often accused him of being hypocritical and untrustworthy in his claims.??
