There are a few unforgettable moments in life that become cherished memories. For an inspiring mother-son duo, one such moment came when they both graduated from IIIT-B: the mother with a PhD and the son with an MTech. Their graduation day marked a celebration of their hard work and determination.
When 22-year-old Raghav SN completed his 12th grade, he initially aimed to join the National Institute of Technology in Delhi. However, his plans changed, and he eventually enrolled in the MTech program at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B).?

This decision marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey, one that he would share with his mother, 48-year-old Ranjani MV.
Ranjani was already pursuing a full-time PhD in Algorithms in Computer Science at IIIT-B.?
Despite the generational gap, their academic paths converged.?
"My son and I worked with each other on our academic journey and we graduated together," Ranjani proudly shared.
The mother-son duo became each other's academic pillars.?
"I'd ask her doubts on the essence of machine learning, on which her thesis is based; she'd reach out to me about coding, modelling, equations, the fundamentals," Raghav said.
Their shared journey reached a pinnacle on a memorable Sunday when they both received their degrees at the IIIT-B convocation. Ranjani earned her PhD, and Raghav received his MTech.?
The IIIT-B director highlighted their achievement, recognising them as a testament to the spirit of lifelong education.
Reflecting on the journey, Raghav, who is set to begin his career as an associate engineer, remarked, "This entire journey, and it culminating in this event, is a core memory for both of us."
The graduation was not just a ceremony but a celebration of their hard work, perseverance, and the unique educational journey they embarked on together.
Alongside Ranjani and Raghav, IIIT-B also celebrated the achievements of 121 graduates from the integrated MTech program, 174 from the MTech program, 14 from the Master of Science in Digital Society program, 23 from the Master of Science by Research program, and 11 PhD scholars.
