The US Embassy has announced changes to the visa application process for Indian students.?
Making the announcement via X (formerly known as Twitter), these changes apply to all embassies in Indian cities and will be in effect from November 27.?
The announcement by the US Embassy states that all F, M and J student visa applicants must use their own passport information when creating a profile and scheduling visa appointment.?
The embassy further states: "Applicants who have Applicants who have created a profile or booked an appointment using an incorrect passport number will not be accepted at the Visa Application Centers (VAC). Their appointments will be canceled, and the visa fee will be lost."?
The US Embassy gives students the following advise:?
Any applicant who has already created a profile or booked an appointment with an incorrect passport number to either create a new profile with accurate passport information or access any existing profile which contains the correct password information in order to book an appointment.?
But, this will require payment of a new visa fee receipt if the old receipt has been attached to a profile with incorrect password information.?
Further the embassy states that in case of a lost or stolen old passport or renewal of passport, applicants must provide a photocopy or other evidence of the old passport number for a US visa appointment.?
There are three different student visas in the United States: the F, M, and J visas.?
Applicants for F or M visas must enroll in a school or program certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).?
Those applying for a J visa need sponsorship from an organisation approved by the US State Department.?
The F visa, sometimes called the Academic Student Visa, is used by visitors who wish to attend an accredited college, university, seminary, preparatory high school, or other academic learning institution.?
The M visa, also known as the Vocational Student Visa, is available to students who wish to go into a non-academic learning program in the United States such as a cooking program.?
The J visa, also known as the Exchange Visitor¡¯s visa, is open to a variety of groups such as students, teachers, research assistants etc and is focused on cultural exchange.? ??
