L&T, supported by South Korean technology partner Hanwha Tech Win (HTW), had bid for this ¡®Buy Global¡¯ acquisition programme of the defence ministry in 2011. It beat three others to emerge as the sole qualified bidder after a series of user trials and evaluations, based on the performance of the K9 VAJRA-T self-propelled Howitzer.?
The K9 VAJRA-T gun is an enhanced version of HTW¡¯s K9 Thunder, customised and co-developed by L&T and HTW to suit the specific requirements of the Indian army, including desert operations.?

HTW has sold over 1,000 units of the K9 Thunder self-propelled Howitzer, which are in service in Korea and other countries. ¡°Our order pipeline is strong and we hope to bag some more big-ticket orders in the current fiscal year to contribute significantly to L&T¡¯s order book,¡± Patil said. L&T has invested heavily in the defence sector and has built a shipyard that can build submarines.
