A minor boy was killed by a suspected leopard in Dhanisyedan village of Uri tehsil in north Kashmir¡¯s Baramulla district on Thursday.
The boy, 6-year-old Syed Ali Hussain was playing outside his home late Thursday when the leopard struck and took him away to the nearby forest.
Though locals and police launched a search operation in the nearby forest, he could not be saved and the boy's body was later found.
This was the second leopard attack on humans in Uri this week.
On Saturday, the body of a 7-year-old girl, who was dragged away by a leopard from the Bijhama area of Uri was found by a search party from the forest.
The girl, identified as Munizah was playing outside her house on Friday night when the leopard attacked and vanished with her into the dense forest.
Her body was found in a nearby forest on Saturday morning.
Leopard attacks on humans have been on the rise in the area for some time.
In July a man-eater leopard blamed for the killing of three children in Uri in a month was shot dead by the authorities.
Amid the increase in leopard attacks and growing panic among locals, the Forest Department had put together a team of nearly 50 men to hunt down the man-eater.
Human-animal conflicts in Kashmir have resulted in hundreds of fatalities in the past few years. Data revealed that from 2006 to 2022, 234 people lost their lives and 2,918 received injuries in animal attacks.?
The number of deaths has particularly gone up between 2011 and 2020. In 2018, eight persons were mauled to death, while it was 11 the following year. The next two years saw five and nine deaths, respectively.?

In recent times there has been an increase in the number of straying of wolves, leopards, tigers, black bears and monkeys in residential areas of Kashmir, resulting in growing human-animal conflict.
