Setting a new example of solidarity and in an almost reciprocal gesture to the Sikh community, Muslims organised langar for protesting farmers in Punjab's Malerkotla on September 26.?
The Muslim community set up camps with free food near the protesting sites in parts of the state. This happened a day after Bharatiya Kisan Union and several other organizations began their nationwide demonstration and ¡°chakkajam¡± against the three contentious farm legislations which were passed by Parliament earlier last week.?
Interestingly, Sikhs from Punjab had come from their state to Delhi and set up similar camps for people protesting against CAA, NRC at Shaheen Bagh, for days together, starting early in February.?
The pictures of the langar setup by Muslims are now viral across social media platforms with people lauding the efforts of the community in supporting the demonstrating farmers.?
Social activist and author Harsh Mander wrote on Twitter, ¡°Farmers from Punjab came to Shaheen Bagh to establish Langar in solidarity with their sisters protesting CAA/NRC. Now Muslim youth from Malerkotla serve food in solidarity with protesting farmers of Punjab. With these bonds of love that bind us, India is safe¡±.?
