The fellow soldiers of the martyred soldiers helped to identify the soldiers with help of Aadhaar Cards ID Cards and leave applications written by the soldiers, the officials said on Friday. The officials say that the bodies of the soldiers were badly mutilated and charred after the explosion and it was very difficult to identify the bodies.

Most of the jawans were identified with the help documents, some were identified by the fellow soldiers by the watches they had put on and wallets.
The officials at the Srinagar and Jammu bases of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) made hundreds of call to the families of the jawans who were part of the convoy which was attacked. It was done to ensure that no one misses and identifications of the?dead are correct.

The official also said that one jawan who aborted the journey last moment was found to be in Delhi. Since the bodies were badly mutilated, doctors and CRPF officers took a long time to announce the number of casualties.
The headquarters of the CRPF in Delhi released the list of 40 soldiers late on Friday evening after confirming their identities with the help of forensic profiling and matching the other belongings recovered from the site of the attack.
