India's Telecommunication watchdog, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)'s Chairman RS Sharma's over enthusiasm to prove the credibility of Aadhaar data safety has opened up a pandora's box which he would not have imagined when he made that tweet posting his UID number and asking people to show concrete example where you can do any harm to him.
Ever since he made his aadhaar number public, hackers have posted details of Sharma's Voter ID, PAN Number, UPI address, home address, e-mail address and phone numbers on twitter.
One of them leading the "expose" is a French? security researcher who goes by the name Elliot Alderson under the @fs0c131y twitter handle. In his bio Alderson describes himself as the worst nightmare of Oneplus, Wiko, UIDAI, Kimbho and others. Alderson who has in the past too exposed the vulnerability of Aadhaar has now challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to publish his Aadhaar number.?
Meanwhile, Sharma, whose intention was to prove that data linked to Aadhaar cannot be misused, he for sure wasn't ready for what was to follow.
If some tweets are to be believed, people are trolling him by booking expensive "gifts" for him on online shopping sites, with cash on delivery to his home address, his phone and WhatsApp are getting spammed by messages from random people and some are even trying to access his email.
While all those can be still seen as harmless trolling a twitter user has described how the data can be misused by potential fraudsters.?
