Amid the Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee is organising 'Sampriti Rally' and 35 smaller processions in Kolkata.
The proposed rallies will pass through Bhowanipore, Camac Street, Sealdah, Garfa, Patuli, Sakuntala Park, and the port areas.
While there is no official holiday in West Bengal, the Visva-Bharati University in Bolpur-Santiniketan has declared a half-day holiday on January 22, 2024, to honour the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony in Ayodhya.
While many states have declared public holidays or half-day leaves for government offices, many non-BJP states have not.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar defended the state government's stand of not declaring a holiday on the occasion of the consecration of the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya.
"We have been practising our traditions and rituals for a long time. We don't need to learn from others about religion and devotion," he said.
It should be noted that none of the southern states, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have declared holidays on January 22.?
In Tamil Nadu, The BJP has alleged that the DMK government has prohibited the live telecast of Ram Lalla's 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony in Ayodhya.
The states and Union Territories in India which have declared a holiday on January 22 include Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Haryana, Odisha, Assam, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Puducherry, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh.?
On Sunday, Jharkhand declared a holiday for government schools on Monday, while its offices, other establishments and public sector banks will remain closed for half a day on the occasion of the Ram temple consecration.
