The Supreme Court of India today pronounced a unanimous verdict in the decades-old Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid Land Dispute, directing the disputed land to be given to Hindus for construction of a temple.?
In a judgement, a 5-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, said the Sunni Waqf Board, which was a party to the title suit, should be given an alternate land somewhere else to build a mosque.
The disputed land of 2.77 acre has been given to Hindus for construction of temple.
While Section 144 has been imposed in all of Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai, authorities have requested the public to not fall for incitement, given whatever the verdict is and maintain peace and harmony.

In order to keep fringe elements in check, security was beefed up in Ayodhya ahead of the judgement. Reports suggest that close to 4,000 paramilitary personnel have been deployed in Uttar Pradesh to ensure law and order.
Two helicopters, one in Lucknow and another in Ayodhya, were put on standby to deal with emergencies. A state-level control room has been set up in Lucknow, whereas every district will have its own control room. Also, temporary jails have been set up in Uttar Pradesh.
