The COVID-19 outbreak in Karnataka continues to remain a matter of concern as the state saw a record number of 7,883 new cases in the past 24 hours.
"On Wednesday, 7,883 new cases were reported while 7,034 people were discharged," said Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey.
With this, the number of confirmed cases in Karnataka has risen to 1,96,494.
As of Wednesday, there were a total of 80,341?active cases in the state while those recovered stood at 1,12,633 after 7,034 more patients were discharged from hospitals.
Meanwhile, 113 more COVID patients succumbed to the virus, taking the state's death toll to 3,510.
In Karnataka, Bengaluru accounted for the highest number of cases, continuing to be the epicentre of the pandemic in the southern state.
In the past 24 hours, Bengaluru alone reported 2,802 cases which is the highest single-day rise the city has seen so for.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Bengaluru stood at 79,840 on Wednesday, out of which 33,489 are active cases.
Those recovered from the illness in Bengaluru stood at 45,034 while the fatalities so far are 1,317.
With new cases still on the rise, the BBMP has suggested that private hospitals with fewer than 50 beds should become COVID-19 treatment facilities.
BBMP has identified 84 hospitals with fewer than 100 beds to accommodate symptomatic patients. Thirty-seven hospitals have a capacity of less than 50 beds and 47 have up to 100 beds.
Among other places, Ballari accounted for 635 cases, followed by Mysuru (544), Belagavi (314), Dharwad (269), Udupi (263), Hassan (258), Davangere (239), Dakshina Kannada (229) and Koppal (202).
Meanwhile, the Kodagu-Kerala border opened for vehicular movement after nearly five months of closure. Also, following an SC direction, the state changed home isolation period of discharged COVID patients to seven days with self-monitoring, while it was 14 days earlier.
