The CBSE Class XII examination is likely to be conducted and its date and format to be announced by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on May 30.
A high-level meeting, chaired by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was held on Sunday to discuss how to conduct CBSE exams for Class XII and entrance examinations for professional courses.
The education ministers and education secretaries of States and Union Territories, chairpersons of state examination boards and stakeholders were present in the meeting. Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar, Smriti Irani and Sanjay Dhotre also attended the meeting.
According to the education ministry, the majority of states/UTs are in favour of conducting the CBSE Class XII examination.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has requested the state governments to send their detailed suggestions/feedback on conducting CBSE exams for Class XII and entrance examinations for professional courses by May 25.
He said that the government is committed to the "safety, security and future" of students.
Earlier on April 14, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had notified that Class XII exams were postponed in view of the COVID pandemic. CBSE had said further information regarding the Class XII board exams would be given to students by June 1.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that if health experts clear anti-Covid vaccine jabs for 17.5-year-olds, then all Class 12 students across the country must be vaccinated before the CBSE exams.
Sisodia, who holds the Education portfolio, made the demand during the high-level virtual meeting with Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and other Union Ministers along with state education ministers to deliberate on the conduct of the exams. However, it was inconclusive.
In a post meeting press conference, he demanded that the Central government should arrange vaccines for around 1.5 crore Class 12 students across the country and the same number of vaccines for teachers.
Sisodia said that nearly 95 per cent of Class 12 students are above the age of 17.5 years, and suggested that Centre should talk to experts aif they can be given anti-Covid vaccines.
