In some really good news for air passengers, national carrier Air India has announced that it won't be charging cancellation fees from customers if it is done within 24 hours of booking.
According to a circular issued by Air India's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) on April 24, "It has been decided that for sale and travel, effective May 1, 2019, all domestic tickets will have the free look-in option for change and cancellation as prescribed by the DGCA."

However, this facility will be available only if the flight is scheduled at least seven days after the booking date.
It also added that the passenger can cancel or modify the ticket by paying the normal prevailing fare and the related fare conditions on a particular flight - for which the ticket is being sought.
Earlier, in February, Indian aviation regulator DGCA had issued a "passenger charter" which specified the rights of air travelers.

Other provisions in the charter include an option of "alternate flight" to the passenger or refund the full price of the ticket if a domestic flight is expected to be delayed by more than six hours.
It also said that if a passenger is informed of a flight cancellation less than two weeks before departure, the airline must offer an alternate flight to the passenger or refund the ticket completely.?
If any passenger is denied boarding due to overbooking of a flight, the passenger would not be liable to hold airline for compensation if he or she is given an alternate flight within one hour of original flight's departure, it states.?
