As People Violate COVID-19 Guidelines, Delhi Records The Highest Single Day Spike In Infections

Delhi recorded 4,308 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, the highest single-day spike so far.

The national capital reported 28 deaths in the last 24 hours, and 2637 recovered/discharged/migrated, as per the Delhi government.

Delhi Corona Cases in September

The total cases in the national capital rise to 2,05,482 including 4,666 deaths and 1,75,400 recovered/discharged/migrated. The active cases are 25,416.

Over 19 lakh tests done so far in Delhi

In Delhi, 9,004 RT PCR/CBNAAT/True Nat tests and 49,336 Rapid antigen test conducted. A total of 19,62,120 tests done so far.

Cumulative Positivity Rate is 10.47 per cent. Case Fatality Rate is 2.27 per cent. The total number of Containment Zones as on date is 1272 in Delhi.

This is the second consecutive day the national capital has recorded over 4000 new infections.

While the government continues to maintain that the increases in the number of tests is the reason behind the spurt in cases, there is a worrying trend of people flouting COVID-19 guidelines.

Since the number of COVID-19 cases began dropping in late July and August, there has been an increase in the number of COVID-19 guideline violations.

Many are showing disregard to the safety precautions as if the pandemic is over.

Cases of people flouting rules on the rise

The number of cases where people have been caught for not wearing mask, spitting in public and not maintaining social distancing are on the rise in Delhi.

On Tuesday alone, 6260 people were fined for not wearing masks in public, while 24 were caught for spitting and 324 for not maintaining social distancing.

The second spike in Delhi is happening as the national capital is witnessing an increasing movement of people and roads. The metro services have also resumed across the national capital, making it easier for residents to commute.?

With the spike in COVID 19 cases, private hospitals in Delhi are witnessing a surge in admissions, with no beds with ventilators in Intensive Care Units available in many top private facilities.

As per data available on Delhi’s ‘Corona app’, out of the 1,212 ICU beds with ventilators that are presently available in private hospitals in the city, 687 are occupied while 642 are occupied out of 976 ICU beds without ventilators.

Private hospitals such as Max Smart in Saket, Batra Hospital, Holy Family, Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, Indraprastha Apollo, Fortis Vasant Kunj, BL Kapur, Fortis, Shalimar Bagh, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute have run out of ICU beds with ventilators.

Of the 14,205 beds available in both private and government hospitals, 5,896 are already occupied, indicating an occupancy rate of 41.5 percent.
