Rainwater leaking from the roof as passengers hide for cover, waiting for the rain to stop is a scene you would associate with an old, dilapidated bus stand or a railway station. But you do not expect such a scene at a world-class airport in a nation's capital.
Well, you should have visited Terminal 3 (T3) at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), Delhi early on Saturday. As it rained, water leaked from four places inside the swanky terminal where all international flights land and take off from.
A video went viral on social media where the waterlogged airport bore a deserted look, passengers were stranded and waiting for the rain gods to have mercy.?A Twitter user posted the video with the caption,??"This is Delhi airport terminal which has now been renamed as ferry terminal."
Here is how Twitterati reacted to the flooded airport videos:
One user said, "Can't say Modi hai toh mumkin hai because it happened due to heavy rain."
One user commented, "Yet again, welcome to Deli airport."
Another user said, "Swim to your neighbourhood airport."
??
Later, Delhi Airport tweeted from its official handle, apologising to a passenger for the inconvenience.?
As per IMD, Delhi will witness 'generally cloudy sky, heavy rain/thundershowers, very heavy rain at isolated places towards night'.
With the heavy rains that lashed the city on Saturday morning, Delhi has recorded its highest annual monsoon rainfall in 46 years. The 2021 monsoons have witnessed the highest rainfall Delhi has seen since 1975, when a total of 1,150 mm of rainfall was recorded.
