A high alert has been sounded in the national capital ahead of Independence Day next month.
The alert for Delhi Police has been issued for the period between the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament and August 15.
According to reports, there are intelligence warnings about a major terrorist conspiracy that is being hatched to rattle Delhi on August 5, and Pakistan-based terrorists could attack the national capital.
Apart from reviewing the security arrangements in the national capital, the Delhi Police have also strengthened the security in and around the Red Fort ahead of the Independence Day.
Security has been beefed up in the national capital, including near its three borders in Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur.
On Monday, Delhi Police Commissioner Balaji Srivastava had visited the borders and Red Fort area in the national capital to check the security arrangements across the city.
Last week, Delhi Police banned the?flying of aerial vehicles?such as paragliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircraft and hot-air balloons over the national capital till Independence Day.
An order issued by the Delhi police Commissioner Balaji Srivastava, stated, "It has been reported that certain criminal, anti-social elements or terrorists inimical to India may pose a threat to the safety of the general public, dignitaries and vital installations by the use of sub-conventional aerial platforms like para-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVS, UASS, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons, small sized powered aircraft, quadcopters or even by para-jumping from aircraft etc."
Though security is stepped up in Delhi every year ahead of occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day, this year, following the airbase attack in Jammu last month security agencies have to deal with an additional threat.
On June 27, two low-intensity explosions were reported in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station. The attack carried out possibly using the improvised explosive device (IED), could not cause much damage and caused minor injuries to two personnel on duty.
Two drones were used to drop explosives on the Jammu airbase by the attackers who then navigated their?quadcopters?out of that area.
This was the first time terrorists have used drones to carry out attacks in India.
