A Nigerian has duped a man from Delhi resident of Rs 45 lakh on pretext of selling herbal medicinal seeds. Police have taken the accused into custody.?
The accused is Okeleve Rankline Chibudom who is 32 years old.?
As per a TOI report, the man posed as an official from a pharma company based in Tokyo. The accused contacted a man on social media and asked him to procure around 10,000 packets of herbal seeds for medicinal purposes.?
According to police, Okeleve, who has a diploma in computer science, designed multiple fake websites to support his claim.?
The victim approached police in February this year, saying Okeleve contacted him through social media in November 2019.?
In his complaint, the man said, "The accused provided him mobile number of one Aarti Mukherjee. The woman claimed she was a sales manager of a mining company in West Bengal. She also claimed that her company was recommended by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Tokyo. Later, the woman asked the man to transfer Rs 44,25,000 in different bank accounts to which the victim agreed. However, the man never received the so-called herbal seeds," said a police officer.?
During the course of the investigation, the police tracked the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the fake website to Mehrauli area in South Delhi.?
The accused was arrested from the locality. His live-in partner, who is identified as Gayatri Deori, and posed as Aarti Mukherjee is still at large.?
Earlier, the same couple was reported to cheat a former Indian Army officer of Rs 10 lakh. However, the cyber cell of the Agra police recovered the stolen money from bank accounts.?
The fraudsters had cheated the retired Lieutenant General on the pretext of a fake business proposal. The cheats had promised the former general to set up a business of exporting mineral to foreign pharmaceutical companies. ?????
