The most recent order, issued on Sunday, extends the winter vacation for schools in Delhi, specifically from Nursery to Class 5.The earlier order, issued by the Delhi government, had extended the winter break until January 10 for all government-aided and unaided recognized private schools in the national capital territory (NCT), citing severe cold waves and an IMD 'yellow alert'.?
However, the order was later revoked, with the Department of Education clarifying that the decision to prolong the winter break was a mistake.?
Meanwhile, in Noida and Greater Noida, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration on Saturday had instructed all to declare holidays for students up to Class 8 until January 14.?
The cold spell over Delhi and adjoining areas continues on Sunday as the minimum temperature dipped to 8 degrees Celsius.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast for the next few days shows a similar trend, with light showers expected on 9 January (Tuesday).?
Cold conditions are likely to continue over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, according to IMD. The cold weather has impacted power demand, with Delhi?winter power demand pushed to an all-time high of 5,559 MW on Friday, discom officials said.
