In a blow to the household budget of millions of Indians, the prices of domestic cooking gas have been hiked by Rs 50.
With this hike, the retail price of cooking gas in Delhi will now be Rs 1,103 per cylinder.
Domestic gas prices were last revised in July 2022.?
It is not just the prices of the 14kg LPG cylinders that have been increased, the prices of 19kg commercial cylinders have been hiked by Rs 350.50 per unit.
With this commercial LPG cylinders will now cost Rs 2,119.50 per unit in Delhi.
This is the second hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices this year. Earlier, on January 1, commercial cylinder prices were increased by Rs 25 per unit.
The prices of domestic LPG cylinders have remained largely stable with the previous hike being in July 2022, when it was increased by Rs 50 per unit.
In March 2022, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder was Rs.899.50 which was increased to Rs.949.50 in April.
In May it was further increased to Rs.1003.00.
In fact, in the past 24 months, a domestic LPG cylinder has become expensive by as much as Rs. 384.
On February 4, 2021, with an increase of Rs 25, the cost of a domestic LPG cylinder was Rs 719.
Hitting out at the government over the LPG price hike, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said "Price of domestic gas has increased by Rs 50 and commercial by Rs 350, the people are now asking how to make Holi dishes, how long will these orders of loot continue?"?
He said the people are being crushed due to high inflation during the Modi government.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries are entitled to a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder for up to 12 cylinders a year.
Adult women belonging to any of the following categories ¨C SC, ST, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), Most Backward Classes (MBC), Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Tea and Ex-Tea Garden tribes, Forest Dwellers, People residing in Islands and River Islands, enlisted under SECC Households (AHL TIN) or any Poor Household are eligible for subsidy under Ujjwala 2.0.
There are over 90 million beneficiaries of the scheme.
