An injured elephant calf was rescued from the village of Udmari in the Nagaon district of Assam. It is just 10 days old, according to ANI.??
The baby was abandoned by its herd and stuck in a mud puddle from where it could not climb out because of a leg injury. This was according to the animal rescuer, Binod Dulu Bora.?
He said the mother tried many times to save her child but did not succeed.
"Around 7 am, I received a call from the forest ranger with information about a calf that had strayed away from its herd. We immediately reached the spot and found it covered in mud. The mother attempted several times to take her offspring along but could not as the calf had a leg injury," he said.?
He added that the calf was now at the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation in Kaziranga where they will help it recover.?
This baby got lucky. And it now has a fighting chance to live a long and healthy life.
