That is exactly what a man from Bapod, in Vadodara, Gujarat did. He chose to get arrested instead of paying alimony to his estranged wife, and he did it in grand style.
Hemant Rajput, a labour got himself arrested by the Bapod Police on Wednesday, carried on shoulder by his family and friends.
The court had ordered his arrest on a complaint filed by his estranged wife claiming that Rajput had failed to pay the Rs 3,500 per month as maintenance the court had awarded at the time of their divorce.?
However, Rajput never bothered to pay the amount and after the total due reached Rs 95,500, his estranged wife once again approached the court against him.??
The family court asked Rajput to pay the Rs 95,500? or face a jail term of 270 days.?
Claiming that he was unable to pay the amount, Rajput said he was ready to go to jail.?
According to the police, the couple had divorced after 15 years of marriage. The woman complained about frequent quarrels and Rajput's reluctance to live separately from his parents.
