First Made-In-India Semiconductor Chip To Be Available This Year
Union Minister of Communication and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday that the first made-in-India chips will come out this year. Speaking at the ongoing 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Vaishnaw said that US chipmaker Micron will bring out the first "Made in India" semiconductor chip before the end of this year.
In a significant boost to India's semiconductor ambitions, Union Minister of Communication and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday that the first made-in-India chips will come out this year.
Speaking at the ongoing 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Vaishnaw said that US chipmaker Micron will bring out the first "Made in India" semiconductor chip before the end of this year.

What minister said
"I would like to thank Micron's team for the passion with which they have started the construction work, the pace they have set for talent development, and the meticulous planning they have undertaken. This dedication gives us confidence that, in 2024, the first made-in-India memory chip will be produced at the Micron plant here in Gujarat," the minister said.

Simmtech to invest Rs 1,250 cr in India
The minister further confirmed that Simmtech, a South Korean semiconductor company, has committed to investing Rs 1,250 crore in a new factory in Sanand, Gujarat.

This project, supported by a government subsidy, will be situated on a 30-acre land parcel provided by Gujarat.
Tata Group's semiconductor plans
Additionally, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said on Wednesday that the Tata Group is close to announcing plans to build a new semiconductor fabrication plant in Gujarat state this year.
Tata Group "is on the verge of concluding and announcing a huge semiconductor fab in Dholera, and we are about to complete this negotiations and start in 2024," Chandrasekaran said.

The new investments and partnerships are expected to help India take a larger role in the semiconductor industry.
