Farmers in Uttar Pradesh are struggling with cattle menace and to deal with the matter at hand they have locked up herds of stray cattle, especially cows, in schools and other government buildings alleging that the animals are destroying their crops, amid a spate of such incidents in the state.
The incident in Agra comes closely after another similar incident in Aligarh where farmers in the district herded stray cows inside government buildings to prevent crop damage.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently directed the officials concerned to make immediate arrangements for proper care of stray cows.

However, in an unusual way to resolve the ongoing stray cattle menace in Aligarh, district police officers have decided to adopt one bovine each, primarily unproductive cows and calves, in order to motivate public to follow suit.
At a meeting of district police officials by Aligarh senior superintendent, the proposal to adopt cows was mooted.
¡°Every adverse law and order situation is to be faced by us, so we should be the ones taking the initiative in resolving the problems,¡± SSP AK Sahni told The Times of India.?

He added that this arrangement will continue till all the cow shelters, which are being constructed by the government, become operational. Sahni, however, added that he will keep the cattle forever.
In Agra, police had to intervene in at least six cases to free cows locked in schools and public health centres.
