Fresh snowfall has draped several parts of Kashmir, including the picturesque Gulmarg, in a breathtaking winter wonderland scene, as temperatures dipped to -9 degrees Celsius.
The Kashmir Valley is currently engulfed in a thick blanket of snow, with several districts reporting heavy snowfall, disrupting flights and traffic on the crucial Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
However, a drone video of Gulmarg has perfectly captured the beauty of the winter wonderland. The renowned tourist spot in north Kashmir, was blanketed in several feet of snow, showed stunning drone footage. The video also perfectly captured the serene beauty of the snow-covered landscape, showcasing winter-clad trees and pathways.
"We have loads and loads of snow. We're just enjoying it, it's amazing and we are expecting some more snow. So come to Gulmarg and enjoy skiing. It's an amazing sport for physical fitness--for the legs, core and everything else. It's a wonderful sport. I encourage all of you to come and ski," expressed a tourist to news agency ANI.
While moderate snowfall graced the plains of Kashmir, the higher reaches experienced heavy snowfall, adding to the region's scenic charm. However, the drastic weather change led to a landslide on the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Kishtwari Patheri near the Sher Bibi area.
The Ramsu-Banihal-Srinagar stretch also witnessed substantial snowfall, with rain pounding the rest of the highway. The inclement weather disrupted chopper services to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine atop Trikuta hills in Reasi district.?Fresh snowfall was observed in the Bhairo Ghati area, while nearby regions experienced rainfall.
Avalanche warnings have been issued for hilly and mountainous areas, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel for the next 24 hours.
Although the 'Chilla-i-Kalan,' marking the 40-day harshest winter period, concluded recently, the cold wave persists in Kashmir. However, according to the Meteorological Department forecast, the weather is expected to improve starting Tuesday.
