An early fire in the Western Ghats has troubled and shocked environmentalists about the climate change. People who have been watching the area too closely say that the fire in the Western Ghats is getting uglier every year.?

Although the environmentalists suspect that this could be a man-made disaster, especially encroachers, the fire has resulted?in a lot of damage in the area, reducing the green belt drastically.?

The fire in last season happened in January, but this year it happened in December - generally what is deemed to be the best time to visit. The forest was reported by someone from Charmadi. The experts have called for a special and immediate intervention as this looks alarming.

¡°We were shocked to notice the forest fire at Somanakaadu, Barimale at the Charmadi of the Western Ghats on Saturday. We suspect this to be a man-made disaster with an intention to encroach upon the land. The area falls between the Mudigere forest range in Chikkamgaluru and Belthangady in Dakshina Kananda."

Its ecological richness and presence of ample of water resources have made it a major attraction for encroachers.
