But Pathanamthitta town in Kerala witnessed one such dramatic scene on Monday afternoon after a gulf-returnee broke quarantine and ventured into the town.As per the Kerala Government's policy, everyone entering the state, be it from other states or other countries have to undergo a 14-day quarantine.?
The man whose identity is yet unknown had returned from Riyadh three days ago with his wife and was on home quarantine as per protocol.But on Monday he picked a fight with his wife, and in a fit of rage left home and travelled some 10kms to the Pathanamthitta town on a two-wheeler.?
A police team that was on regular patrolling duty in the city spotted a man travelling on a scooter without wearing the mandatory face mask and stopped him.Upon questioning by the police, the man revealed that he had just returned from abroad and has broken quarantine.?
Since Kerala's quarantine protocol mandates violators to be shifted to government facilities, the man was apprehended and the health department was informed. But when heath workers wearing PPE approached him, the man refused to go with him and made a run, catching everyone by surprise.?
What followed was a run around the town for several minutes, and finally, the health workers pinned him down and tied him up using bandage cloth, put him on a stretcher and took him to a hospital in Kozhencherry.?
Videos posted online by bystanders showed the man turning violent and even trying to attack the health workers.?Police said a case under the relevant section of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Kerala Epidemic Act and the Police Act has been registered against him for violating quarantine.Following the incident, the area was disinfected by sanitation workers.
