The unprecedented heat wave is also bad news for the tourism sector in Ooty?which?sees visitors from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka?and?other parts of India during this time of the year to enjoy the pleasant weather and scenic beauty there.
Ooty is also set to host its biggest annual event next month, which sees tourists from across the country. The 126th annual flower show will be held in Ooty for five days starting on May 10.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court on Monday said that all vehicles entering Ooty and another hill station, Kodaikanal, should obtain an e-pass.
"All vehicles entering the Nilgiris and Kodaikanal between May 7 and June 30 must obtain?e-pass?to help the district administration collect data on the number and type of vehicles entering the hill stations during summer," a division bench of Justices N Sathish Kumar and D Bharatha Chakravarthy said.
The court order came after the state government submitted that about 20,000 vehicles enter the Nilgiris every day during the summer vacation.
