As coronavirus cases continue to soar in India, those at the frontlines of the war against the disease are risking their lives to ensure those infected are given proper care and treatment.
But their selfless duty has not stopped people from insulting, stigmatising and even in some cases, physically abusing them. In another disgraceful incident,?a hospital security guard was brutally attacked with a brick by his own neighbour who accused him of 'spreading' coronavirus.
As per a report in News18 Hindi, the victim, identified as Vijay Kumar, who works as a security guard at Delhi's Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, was on the receiving end of a deplorable treatment from his neighbour, Vikas.
Kumar has suffered head injuries in the attack, but is said to be out of any danger.
The report states that the incident took place on Sunday when the victim was going on his usual exercise drill on the roof of his house in North-East Delhi's Harsh Vihar.
According to police, Kumar was attacked by brick by his neighbour, accusing him of spreading COVID-19. The victim received?a severe bruise which meant he had to be stitched up.
"We have arrested 24-year-old accused Vikas. An FIR has?also been filed against the accused," News18 quoted Ved Prakash Surya, DCP North East Delhi, as saying.?
Vijay Kumar had been living with his family in 'B' Block Harsh Vihar and working at GTB hospital for three years.
