Senior citizens are not the most up-to-date when it comes to technology, and this can sometimes lead to some minor inconveniences.
But in a rather hilarious courtroom exchange, a judge of the Supreme Court got Amazon's Kindle reader mixed up with the popular dating app Tinder.
According to Bar and Bench, the incident happened when the SC bench of Justice PV Sanjay Kumar and Justice Aniruddha Bose was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition to set up rural libraries and encourage reading among people in villages across the country to ensure holistic education and development of children.
When Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Vikramjit Banerjee informed the Court that plans were underway for e-libraries and digitisation of textbooks, Justice Kumar remarked, "Mr. ASG, the joy and feel of turning over a new page, where is it available on those digital readers - what do you call it? Tinder?"
ASG Banerjee soon corrected the judge and said that the device he was referring to was a Kindle.
"Yes. Tinder is a dating app," replied Justice Kumar with a smile.
The PIL was filed by Swati Jindal, the Advocate-on-Record in the Supreme Court.
Last month, the SC had issued notice to all states and union territories on the PIL.
The ASG informed the court that traditional ways of consumption have to change given how everything is now available in e-form.
"Nowadays everything is conveniently available in e-form. Be it Economist, etc. The way we consumed traditionally has to change my lords," the ASG said.
