The number of fresh COVID cases appear to be on the downward spiral in the country. India is now registering less than 50,000 cases, which suggests that the country may have already passed its peak.
In the last 24 hours, India recorded just a little over 45,000 fresh cases, which is the lowest spike in daily COVID-19 cases in the last 90 days.?
Also, India's active caseload of coronavirus has been below 10 lakh for nearly a month now.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the growth rate of COVID-19 infection has more than halved in the last 30 days since the virus cases peaked in the country.
The last time India registered close to 45,000 cases was back in late July, nearly three months.
In August, the growth rate of COVID-19 infection was a staggering 92 per cent and witnessed a steep decline to 42 per cent.
Chhattisgarh has seen the sharpest fall at a staggering 291 per cent during that period.
Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Haryana have also registered a dramatic turnaround.
However, COVID situation in Kerala continues to remain in bad shape as the state's case overload is five times the national average.
With 579 deaths in the country, the total death count due to the disease has reached 1,14,610.
"India's Active Cases have fallen below 8L after 6 weeks and continue to slide further down. 22 States/UTs have less than 20,000 Active Cases, and only 3 are reporting more than 50,000 active caseload," the MoHFW said in a tweet.
