In preparation for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024, some Indian citizens engaged in an innovative voter awareness initiative by descending deep underwater, aiming to emphasise the significance of their vote to fellow Indians.
As part of a creative initiative to raise awareness about voting before the Lok Sabha elections, six divers plunged into the waters off Neelankarai, near Chennai in southern India, descending nearly sixty feet underwater.?
Carrying a mock Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and placards displaying messages from the Election Commission of India, they aimed to convey the importance of voting. Holding up signs stating "I know the power of my vote" and "My country, my vote", the divers showcased the significance of voting even in the depths of the ocean.
In a video documenting the initiative, one of the divers can be heard discussing the significance of voting, emphasising that casting a vote is both a duty and a right for citizens.?
The deep-sea voter awareness campaign was organised by SB Aravind Tharunsri, who serves as a Scuba dive instructor and is the director of Temple Adventure.
The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to take place in seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1.?
As per the Election Commission of India (ECI), there are a total of 97 crore registered voters across India who are eligible to participate in the electoral process.?
Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, revealed that among these voters, there are 1.8 crore first-time voters and 19.47 crore individuals aged between 20 and 29 years old.?
Additionally, Kumar mentioned that voters aged 85 and above will have the option to cast their votes from the comfort of their homes.
