As the peak tourism season starts in Thailand, if you are planning to visit the tourist paradise, there is some good news for visitors from India. Thailand has extended its visa-free entry policy for Indian travellers indefinitely.
In November 2023, Thailand announced visa-free entry for Indian tourists, but the provision was set to end on 11 November 2024. This has now been extended indefinitely for Indian tourists, who will be able to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without needing a visa. In addition, tourists from India will also have the option of extending their stay for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office.
According to reports, Thai authorities decided to extend visa-free access to Indians due to the country's rise in popularity among tourists from India.
Accessibility, affordability, food, culture, pristine beaches, nature reserves, rustic countryside, and misty hill stations have made Thailand a very popular destination for Indians.
In 2023, over 1.6 million Indian travellers visited Thailand, making the country the fourth-largest source market for Thailand. In 2024, Thailand is on track to host a record 2 million Indian tourists.
According to Thai media, as of 20 October, Indian tourist arrivals for the year totalled 1.64 million, making India the third-largest inbound market, after Malaysia and China.
While Thailand is a year-round destination, November to March is the best time to visit the country, as the warm weather conditions make it a perfect getaway for tourists from around the world. The months between April and June also see a good tourist footfall from across the world to Thailand.
