Indian IT major Infosys has become the latest company to layoff its workforce. The company is planning to layoff around 2,200 people in the mid, senior levels (JL6 band (job level 6), which refers to the level of senior managers)
The Times of India quoting sources reported that Infosys will also lay off 2-5% of the workforce at the associate (JL3 and below) and middle (JL4 and 5) levels.

That translates to 4,000-10,000 people. Infosys has 86,558 employees and 1.1 lakh employees at the associate and middle bands respectively.
The company, however, said the move should not be viewed as a mass trimming.
¡°As a high-performance organization, involuntary attrition is integral to normal course of business and this should not be interpreted as any mass trimming across any level.¡±

The development comes days after the US tech giant Cognizant announced that it will exit its content moderation business, which will impact around 6,000 jobs.
The cost reduction plan also involves exiting certain content work in the digital operations practice over the course of 2020.
Cognizant, which is one of Facebook's content review contractors, is likely to exit the content moderation business after honouring the remainder of its contract.
Even though the company has not specified where the job cuts will be made, it is likely to have a direct impact on India as out of its 2.88 lakh global workforce, over 75 percent of them are located in the country.
