Marginalised women have been pushed further to the edge during the lockdown, especially terms of their sanitary hygiene needs.
Their plight turned an IRS officer, Aman Preet, turned into a "pad woman" for about 10 lakh women from 17 states of the country who had no access to sanitary needs.
Many women and girls of menstruating age faced difficulty buying pads.
In order to address their plight, Aman Preet, relentlessly worked towards improving the standard of sanitation for the women and reached out to them with the help of various social organisations, NGOs and good Samaritans.?
"Working in Delhi as a joint commissioner of income tax, the 2010-batch officer earlier found out that almost 50 per cent of the women were not using sanitary pads," said a report by The Times of India.
She worked with her batchmates, friends and Sangini Saheli trust, she was subsequently able to distribute around 12 lakh sanitary pads across India.
¡°Taking care of personal and menstrual hygiene is a key factor in the fight against the novel coronavirus,¡± Aman Preet told TOI who was born and brought up in Ludhiana, Punjab.
Not just this, she has also been at the forefront and an integral part of the Covid response team constituted by Income Tax officers to help the needy department staff and persons related to them in case of medical and other emergencies.
