Life has changed in ways that she could not have imagined a few weeks back for Anandavalli, who on Monday became the new Block Panchayat President of Pathanapuram in Kerala's Kollam District.
That is because until a few days ago Anandavalli was a temporary sweeper at the same Block Panchayat Office.
For nearly ten years Anandavalli, a contractual employee at the office has done the cleaning and other jobs like serving tea during meetings in the same hall where she will now preside over meetings.
Anandavalli who contested the recently-concluded local bodies elections in Kerala for the CPIM won with a margin of 654 votes, and as luck would have it was chosen for the post which was reserved for SC/ ST woman.
Reacting to her nomination, Anandavalli said it came as a surprise for her and admitted that she was nervous about her new responsibilities.
The recently concluded local bodies election Kerala has in fact thrown in some surprises like Anandavalli and some new faces.
One of them is Arya Rajendran, who at the age of 21 has become the youngest Mayor of Kerala's capital Thiruvananthapuram and anywhere in the country.
Another 21-year-old Reshma Mariam Roy, also surprised many when the youngest candidate in the fray was nominated as the new president of Aruvapulam panchayat in Pathanamthitta District.
In fact, Reshma barely made it through the elections at the last minute.?
Reshma was 21 years and one day old when she filed her nomination for the election on November 19, the last day of filing.?
