In what can be called a huge case of negligence, 12 kids in Maharashtra were given hand sanitiser drops instead of oral polio vaccine drops in a village in Yavatmal district, according to an official as per a report in PTI.??
All the children are below 5 years of age and they were admitted to a government hospital. Their condition is stable said the district official said. He also added that 3 healthcare workers will face action.
It happened on January 31 at Bhanbora PHC (Primary Health Centre) in Kapsikopri village during the National Pulse Polio vaccination drive for children aged 1-5 years.?
Yavatmal Zilla Parishad CEO Shrikrishna Panchal said 12 children below 5 got 2 drops of sanitiser in place of polio drops.?
One kid then complained of vomiting and uneasiness.?
Panchal went on to say that they were then taken to the Government Medical College in Yavatmal.?
They are still under observation?
Reports say that a doctor, Anganwadi sevika and an ASHA volunteer - were present when it happened.?
"An inquiry is underway and orders will be issued to suspend all the three healthcare workers," he said. ??
