Man Claiming To Be Amit Shah's Relative At Indore Airport Got VIP Facilities For Months, Booked
In a country like ours, where politicians are among the most privileged it is not uncommon for people to wish that they had politically powerful kin.
And for those who have, they will use it everywhere - from when being pulled up for traffic violation to 'get some job done.
But one man who did not have such family connections still tried to take advantage of it.
A man identified as Puneet Shah posed as a relative of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and tricked the Indore international airport's management to avail VIP facilities.
Doing it for months now
According to the authorities, Shah who hails from Maharashtra has been doing this for some months now.
"The accusation against Puneet Shah is that he claimed to be a relative of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and used that position to assert himself on the airport management and availed access to VIP lounge, vehicles and other facilities," Aerodrome police station inspector Rahul Sharma said.
Shah reportedly used the VIP facilities for 5-6 months after which the airport management grew suspicious about him.
They discreetly collected information about the man and found his claim to be false. On getting to know about his fraud, the management lodged the complaint, Sharma said.
"On a complaint of an officer of the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport, we have registered a case of cheating against a man named Puneet Shah along with other sections of the Indian Penal Code," he said.
Probe on
According to the police further probe is on and a search has been launched to arrest the accused.
Not the first such incident
In July 2020, a man by the name of Abhishek Dwivedi was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Police for duping people impersonating as the personal secretary of Amit Shah.
He even used to approach officials promising favours. Dwivedi, who in reality was a jobless man was caught after he called a personal staff of the then Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, seeking cancellation of the transfer of a transport department official in Gwalior.
The official who became suspicious reported it to the police and Dwivedi was later arrested.
