In a shocking incident in West Bengal¡¯s North 24 Parganas, a man was allegedly murdered by three others for protesting drinking alcohol on a burial ground . The accused, who were under the influence, attacked the victim by hitting his head with a hammer on at least 3 occasions.?
The incident happened at Bamangachhi town. The deceased is Ali Hossain. On May 8, he saw 3 men drinking liquor on a burial ground. It was deserted due to the lockdown. So it was the best spot for the accused to engage in group drinking. When Hossain protested, he was allegedly hacked to death. His father, Mukul, rushed to rescue his son only to be attacked too. Both were taken to Barasat district hospital.?
According to a TOI report, Hossain died soon after being admitted while his father is recovering. The accused are Sirajul Haque, Shafik Ali and Hafizul Haque. Police are searching for them.
This is similar to the murder of Sourav Chowdhury, who was killed in the same area when he protested against anti-social activities back in 2016. While speaking to TOI, a local said Ali had earlier organised a protest against some people for consuming liquor on the burial ground. He added that on Friday, Ali protested when he saw people had started it again.??
