Rajat Kumar, an Uttar Pradesh man who was hailed a hero for his timely action that saved the life of Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant, who met with a road accident in December 2022, is now battling for his own life in a hospital. This after the 25-year-old from Buchha Basti in Muzaffarnagar attempted suicide along with his girlfriend on Sunday.
According to the police, while Kumar was undergoing treatment in a local hospital, his girlfriend, Manu Kashyap, who also consumed poison with him, did not survive.
Police said that the duo attempted suicide by consuming pesticides as their families did not approve of their relationship, as both hailed from different castes.
After their families arranged different marriages for them, Kumar and Kashyap allegedly tried to die together. On Sunday, they consumed pesticide and while Kashyap died, Kumar survived and is undergoing treatment.
Things took yet another unexpected turn after the family of the girl filed a police complaint against Kumar, accusing him of poisoning their daughter. Based on the family's complaint, the police have registered a complaint against Kumar.
Rajat Kumar and his friend Nishu Kumar were the first responders who pulled a bleeding and semi-conscious Rishabh Pant out of the wreckage of his mangled Mercedes car that met with an accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway near Roorkee on December 30, 2022.
The duo acted in the nick of time as soon after Pant was pulled out, the vehicle went up in flames.
Pant, who has since made a full recovery, had met the two men who saved his life and said he would be forever grateful and indebted to them for saving his life.
In November 2024, Pant had also gifted two scooters to?Rajat Kumar?and?Nishu Kumar.
