In Kerala, one does not need to show one's religious papers to register one's marriage from now on, as per The New Indian Express.??
The state government's circular states that no documents to prove one¡¯s religion or to prove that the marriage was held as per religious rituals were required to register marriage in local bodies.
According to the Kerala Registration of Marriages (Common) Rules 2008, all marriages in the state should be registered.?
¡°In the light of the Kerala Registration of Marriages (Common) Rules 2008 and the SC verdict, there¡¯s no need to seek documents to prove the religion of the parties or to prove that marriage was held as per religious rituals,¡± said the order which was issued by LSGD additional chief secretary Sarada Muraleedharan.?
In the past several couples complained that they faced hurdles due to this clause.?
Now with this fresh amendment, hopefully, things will be smoother. ??
What triggered this move was the fact that several registrations were getting stalled due to this one factor as religious documents could not always be provided at the drop of a hat.
Now that they are not needed at all, the process will be quicker and while one is not sure if any state as implemented this before, it is an example that many states can follow.?
