It is perhaps because they can't speak for themselves that we don't end up hearing their stories as often. So when Max, a retired white police labrador passed away due to an ailment, only a few came to know about it.
Sniffer dog Max was a hero who played a major role in the 26/11 operations that terrorised the entire nation. He saved several lives by sniffing out an IED and a hand grenade in front of the Taj Hotel. He also detected 8 kilos of RDX outside the hotel. After retiring from the Mumbai police in 2015, he stayed in a Virar farm, more like a retirement home for Max and his other retired friends.

Apparently, despite being a hero at his workplace, not a single police officer was present as he was put to rest wrapped in tricolour. Apart from his caretaker Fizzaz Shah and former handler Subhash Gawde, everyone else was apparently busy with IPL duty. Max found a total of 25 grenades in the hotel reception and was awarded a gold medal for his act of valour by Amitabh Bachchan himself.?

Max was born on 28th October 2004 and was bought as a pup by Mumbai's Bomb Squad. He was then sent for training to Pune in 2005.
Rest in peace, Max.
